Technical Anatomy: Apparel Construction Specs

Apparel Anatomy

A blueprint of structural integrity. Every stitch engineered for purpose.

1. Fiber Mechanics

Airlume Cotton Advanced Purification

Advanced fiber selection and cleaning that removes more impurities and short fibers than standard combing. Result: noticeably softer hand feel and a smoother surface for high‑resolution prints on our Airlume SKUs.

Combed Cotton Mechanical Refinement

Conventional combing process that already upgrades basic carded cotton by removing a portion of short fibers. Delivers improved softness and reduced pilling on select non‑Airlume products at a more accessible cost.

Ring-Spun Yarn Tensile Strength

Fibers are twisted and thinned simultaneously in a continuous motion. This increases tensile strength and produces a smoother, more uniform yarn compared to cheap carded open‑end cotton.

Yarn Gauge (Singles) 20–32 Index

The singles count describes yarn thickness: the higher the number, the finer the yarn and tighter the knit. grabNade uses both 32 singles (finer, smoother) and 20 singles (thicker, more robust), depending on the intended use case.

Gauge Selection Guide

Yarn Gauge Typical GSM / Feel Recommended Use
32 Singles ≈140–150 gsm / Fine, soft, fluid Daily tees, next-to-skin comfort, high‑detail prints where smooth surface and drape are priority.
20 Singles ≈180–220 gsm / Thicker, more substantial Workwear‑style tees, heavier garments and hoodies where structure, robustness and longer mechanical life matter most.

2. Structural Assembly

Side-Seamed Construction Geometry

Unlike cheap "tubular" tees, our chassis uses side seams. This creates a tailored fit that follows human torso geometry rather than a generic cylinder.

Shoulder Taping Reinforcement

A continuous fabric strip sewn across the shoulder seam. Prevents structural warping and seam blowout under tension.

Twin-Needle Topstitch Durability

Parallel stitching rows on hems and sleeves. Distributes tension loads evenly, preventing thread snapping during mechanical washing.

3. Finishing Protocols

Pre-Shrinking Stabilization

Fabric is washed and compacted before cutting. Minimizes post-consumer shrinkage variance to <3%.

Ribbed Knit Collar Elasticity

Collar constructed with elastane-infused ribbing. Ensures memory retention (snap-back) after head-entry stretching.

The Sum of Parts

We don't sell fabric; we sell engineered textiles. Every spec listed above contributes to a garment life of 75-150+ washes (weight dep.)
